Questions from Educators:
Is SVHS an accredited school? Yes, SVHS is accredited by AdvancED, the largest community of education professionals in the world. AdvancED is the trusted partner to 34,000 educational institutions—employing more than four million educators and enrolling more than 20 million students—across the United States and 70 other nations.
Which commission accredits SVHS? AdvancED operates three commissions: 1) North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI); 2) Southern Association of Colleges and School Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI); and 3) Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC). NWAC is managing the schools in California where SVHS is headquartered. But AdvancED schools are accredited under all three commissions since a merger in 2012. So SVHS is accredited under all three commissions.
Are you NCAA accredited? We are not NCAA approved at this time. Our courses are all self-paced, so students are able to accelerate through a course if they are prepared to invest the time and energy. NCAA does not allow a student to complete a course in an accelerated fashion, so our courses are not compliant with NCAA at this time.
How do I know the student successfully completed the course? When the student has completed the course and earned a passing score they can access the certificate of completion. The student can also request we send you a record of course completion. You can also monitor the progress of your students through your own SVHS account (see below).
How do I monitor the progress of our students in your courses? You can request to have a Counselor role with SVHS and monitor your students progress and grades. First, you will need a SVHS account. Go to lms.svhs.co to set up an account. Once you have an account contact us, and we will coordinate the set-up with you.
Are your final exams proctored? By default our exams are not proctored. However, if a school or program prefers that our final exams be proctored, we can accommodate that request and modify the final exam for their students, whereby students cannot access the final without a password. We provide the password to an administrator of the school, and the school’s proctor enters the code to initiate and supervise the exam. Contact us if you want to proctor your students final exam, and we will work with you to coordinate the proctoring arrangements.
I am a high school coordinator. Do you have instructors for your courses, or do we have to provide the teachers? We have credentialed teachers to develop and support our courses. We characterize our courses as “teacher-supported” rather than “teacher-led” because the courses are self-paced, students work at their own speed and there are no deadlines set by our teachers. Student assignments are graded by our teachers online, and students are provided with feedback and guidance directly from our teachers. Students that take SVHS courses submit assignments that are graded by SVHS teachers.
